Finding the Right Fit: A Guide to Wide-Calf Boots

Finding the Right Fit: A Guide to Wide-Calf Boots

Tall boots should feel as good as they look. If regular knee-high boots tend to feel tight around your calves, a wide-calf style can make all the difference. Here is how to find a pair that fits comfortably.

Measure your calf

Use a soft measuring tape around the widest part of your calf while standing. Measure both legs and use the larger number. It helps to measure later in the day, when legs can be slightly fuller.

Leave a little room

A good fit leaves enough space to slide a finger between the boot and your leg. If you like to wear leggings or thicker jeans tucked in, allow a bit more room.

Check the foot size too

Calf width and foot size are separate. Choose your usual shoe size first. If you have a high instep or wider feet, consider going half a size up for extra comfort.

Look at the details

Side zippers make tall boots easier to put on, and a stacked block heel gives stability for all-day wear. Soft suede-touch uppers tend to give a little as you wear them in.
